Council Seeking Input on 2021 Waste Hauling Contract

The City Council is requesting public input regarding the City of Genoa’s residential waste hauling contract to begin November 1, 2021. A summary of the two leading proposals is available here.
 
The City of Genoa will be having a public meeting on September 1st at 7 PM at City Hall at which time the Council will be discussing the two waste haulers and their services below. Waste Management and Flood Brothers will be present to provide information about each hauler and answer questions. The Council encourages questions and comments.

School Supplies Drive until July 30, 2021

Genoa and Kingston community members and businesses :
Let’s give every GK grade-schooler a great start this year. We need your help filling over 200 new backpacks with much-needed school supplies. Donation boxes are set up at Tobinson’s Ace Hardware and Open Door Coffee or donors can call Pastor Eric Groce of Gospel Life Bible Church at 815-501-4234. Donations will be accepted through July 30.
The following supplies are needed:
Crayons (24 pack)
#2 pencils (24 pack)
Washable markers
Colored pencils
Wide-rule notebooks
Medium scissors
Glue sticks
Dry erase markers
Kleenex boxes
Black permanent marker
*ACE is offering 50% off of existing Crayola stock.
Backpacks and supplies will be distributed in early August to Genoa and Kingston elementary students in need via the Genoa Area Community Food Hub and Gospel Life Bible Church.
Let’s give every GK kid a great start and fill those backpacks!

4th of July

The City of Genoa wishes everyone a happy and safe 4th of July!
 
City Hall will be closed on Monday, July 5, 2021, in observance of Independence Day.
 
Waste Management’s garbage day will also be delayed by one day. If your pickup is normally on Monday, it will be on Tuesday this week. If your pickup is normally on Tuesday, it will be Wednesday this week.

Odd/Even Water Outdoor Water Usage

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:

The City of Genoa is asking residents to begin practicing an odd/even outdoor water usage schedule. If your address ends in an odd number, please only water outside on odd days. If your address ends in an even number, please only use water outside on even days.

These restrictions are a proactive measure to protect the City’s water supply during the ongoing drought. Public Works will continue to monitor the situation and notify residents when restrictions end or change.

City Offices Closed May 31st

City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 31st in observance of Memorial Day.

 

Waste Management services will also be delayed one day. Monday pickups will be on Tuesday and Tuesday pickups will be on Wednesday.

Illinois Rental Payment Program

The Illinois Housing Development Authority is offering an Illinois Rental Payment Program. ILRPP is an emergency rental assistance program designed to support households in Illinois that are unable to pay rent due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Illinois Housing Authority will begin accepting applications on May 17. In the meantime, IHDA has confirmed several program details that can help tenants and housing providers gather the information needed to apply when the program opens.

Grant Information

Applicants are eligible for up to 15 months of assistance. The grant can cover the past due rent from the previous 12 months and future rental assistance for the next three months, if deemed necessary. The maximum grant amount is $25,000. The emergency rental assistance is provided by the Federal government and is free to tenant and housing provider. If approved, the grant will be paid to the housing provider in the form of a check.
