Comprehensive Plan Task Force

The City of Genoa is looking for residents and business owners within the community to volunteer to be on the City’s Comprehensive Plan Task Force!
This group will meet 4-5 times via zoom between Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 to help develop the visions and goals of Genoa and to offer input on issues and opportunities. These residents will encourage participation in community surveys and community meetings and be a sounding board for ideas and thoughts throughout the Comprehensive Planning process. Meetings will most likely take place via Zoom with Northern Illinois University who will be aiding in the planning process at dates and times to be determined by the Task Force.

Public Works Continuing Lead Service Line Inspections

The City of Genoa will be continuing to create an inventory of the material of all the water service lines in the City. The City will be applying for a grant that may pay for the cost of replacing service lines if they are made of lead.
 
This week, Public Works will be going door to door asking to examine the water line coming into your home. Public Works needs to be able to access homes to determine the service line material. This should only take a few minutes.
 
*Public Works employees have ID badges, will be wearing a City of Genoa Public Works uniform, and driving a City vehicle. You may also call to verify an individuals employment.
 
**Please note, this website post is in addition to the formal means of communication the City will be using to reach out to residents. We will also reach out to residents with door tags and/or via mail at a later date.

Public Works to Go Door to Door

2022 Resident Survey

As a Genoa resident, we need your help to focus our efforts in providing recommendations to the city leadership to attract new business and development within our strong community. Please complete the survey as fully as possible so we can create actionable strategies to drive positive economic development to the City of Genoa!

Special City Brush Pickup

In addition to the brush pickup provided by Flood Brothers, the City will be conducting a special brush pickup on Monday, July 11th. A second special brush pickup is also scheduled for October 10th.

For City brush pickup, please keep in mind the following:

-Residents’ brush must be stacked along the curb or road’s edge to be picked up by the City crews.

-Brush pickup per household is limited to a 3′ W x 5′ H area.

-Residents stacking brush in the alley need to contact City Hall no later than 8:30 a.m. Monday for pickup.

-Please make sure that brush is stacked neatly in one direction (not tied) with the cut ends towards the street.

-The chipper is limited to 4-inch diameter limbs and will not chip Y sections of tree limbs exceeding the 4-inch limit.

-Please do not place brush in the street

Public Works Larviciding 5/13

Public Works will be larviciding storm drains throughout the community tomorrow (5/13) from approximately 5:30 AM to 8:30 AM. A larvicide is a type of insecticide used to control mosquitoes indoors and outdoors. They work by killing mosquito larvae before they can grow into adults.
 
The larvicide was provided by DeKalb County Health Department. In order to avoid encouraging mosquito breeding, please eliminate/maintain standing water where possible. This includes changing birdbath water weekly, maintaining wading pools, stocking ornamental ponds with fish, and turning over buckets, garbage cans, and other containers that may collect water.

No Parking on Railroad Avenue – May 7th, 9th, and 10th

There will be NO PARKING on Railroad Ave., Saturday May 7th, and Monday, Tuesday May 9 & 10th.  The Schroeder asphalt company will be grinding on Saturday, and shaping Monday and Tuesday.

 

The area of construction is from Stiles to N. Sycamore St. on Railroad Ave.

 

Asphalt application is predicted to be the following week.

 

Access on Railroad Ave will be available when construction is not happening (7am-6pm). Please be advised to go very slow, and avoid any structures.

 

Please avoid Railroad Ave. during this process if possible.
